Jessica Kalmar will speak on
"Housewifery in Photographs"
Digital Imagers Meeting
Sunday Sept. 2, 2018 at 1:15, Pitt Scaife Hall, Room 1102
Housewifery is the working title of my newest photographic project which entails silver gelatin prints and embroidery. I will talk about how this project formed, what my inspiration is, and the processes used. I will bring pieces in to show.
A fine art photographer, Jessica Kalmar is known for her evocative black and white imagery which shows fragments of detail in intimate landscapes; often using the less sophisticated types of cameras and lenses, and sometimes adding paint or embroidery to specific areas on the photographs. She develops and prints her black and white work in a customized darkroom at home. Jessica's work has been exhibited in the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast regions. She received the Jefferson Award in 2011 for her ongoing volunteer work at a day treatment cennter for adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral health challenges. She has been a guest speaker and instructor of photography in southern Ohio and the Pittsburgh area.
