Description:
My pursuit of photography is a result of admiring fellow photographers work, and hearing the correct question clearly. Why not me ?
By inquiring of those with "fruit on the vine", attending a plethora of workshops, and finding a mentor who would challenge and hold me accountable, I am enjoying a transition from 33 years in dentistry into a second career behind a tripod. I am by no measure a polished professional. What I will share is simply my journey from McConnell's Mill to the Canadian Rockies to Tuscany. I have been fortunate to learn from professionals in Yosemite, Acadia, and the Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper national parks in Canada.
It was a trip to Italy, however, in 2012 with my wife Susan that caused me to fall in love with the old world beauty of that country. Two trips there with my friend and mentor, 30 year professional Tom Mackie, has created a passion that has made me 20 years younger. I have been focusing my portfolio exclusively in Italy with five trips there over the last four years. For those who hope to travel there someday, I will be sharing details on a trip in 2016 that is open to all wishing to capture the ambiance of Tuscany and the Cinque Terre. The restaurants we will enjoy there, in between golden hour and street scene sessions, have spoiled me for life !
What have I realized over the last few years ? There is a reward to be found in those "Selah" moments where you listen to the birds chirping as the sun gradually appears on that focused horizon. My suppressed desire to seriously pursue art, long dormant under the responsibilities of putting four children through college, is now alive and well in my "empty nest" household. Carpe diem !
